Mothica is digging into some dark territory on her latest single, My Confession, a bruising collision of heavy guitars, raw emotion and unsettling self-reflection.
The Los Angeles-based artist, born McKenzie Ellis, continues her move into heavier musical territory following this year’s Somewhere In Between EP, delivering a track that confronts addiction, destructive relationships and the strange comfort of familiar pain.
Written initially as a stream of consciousness in her bedroom, My Confession explores the tendency to cling to anger rather than confront grief, and the difficulty of breaking patterns of self-destruction. Working with producer Elliot Polokoff and co-writer Trever Stewart, Ellis transforms those deeply personal reflections into a powerful, emotionally charged release.
The single arrives alongside a cinematic fantasy video directed by Micah Hamilton, extending Mothica’s fascination with dark imagery and psychological unease.
It’s another step in an increasingly uncompromising direction for an artist who refuses to keep her demons out of her music.
Mothica will support Of Mice & Men at upcoming California shows before heading to the UK and Europe for a tour in early 2027.
My Confession is out now via SharpTone Records.
