Hertfordshire-based indie-rock outfit The Pedals return with a gripping follow-up to their debut, releasing their second single ‘Hold Me’. The track builds on the band’s early promise, merging indie melodic shimmers with alt-rock urgency to deliver a compelling and emotionally charged listen.
Opening with a blistering wall of distortion and crashing percussion, ‘Hold Me’ quickly establishes its raw sonic identity. Yet, it soon pulls back into a more delicate, introspective verse, before launching into a soaring, anthemic chorus – a dynamic contrast that showcases the band’s deft control of mood and momentum.
“‘Hold Me’ came together pretty quickly,” the band explains. “We were playing around with the main riff as a band in a bedroom and it just clicked. Lyrically, it’s about wanting someone to stay, even when you’re not exactly making it easy for them.”
That emotional complexity is mirrored in the track’s production, with urgent guitars, relentless basslines, and punchy drums barely containing the intensity beneath. “We didn’t overthink it — it’s raw and urgent, and we wanted it to feel like it was barely holding itself together,” the band adds, “which felt right for the title.”
The Pedals’ sound may be youthful, but their tight arrangements and mature songwriting speak to a band quickly finding its voice. With early endorsements from indie favourites The K’s and The Sherlocks, and support slots for acts like Toploader and Pentire, the quartet are swiftly establishing themselves as ones to watch on the UK indie circuit.
