Hertfordshire’s rising indie outfit The Pedals have dropped their latest single, ‘Spitting Feathers’.
Fusing raw energy with heartfelt introspection, the band delivers a sound that’s both urgent and textured. Jagged guitar riffs, pounding drums, and a steady bassline provide the sonic backbone, while the lead vocals weave melancholy and control into the chaos—creating a gripping juxtaposition between vulnerability and power.
The result is a track that pulses with life, brimming with emotional weight while still managing to hit with the energy of a band known for their electrifying live shows.
Speaking on the meaning behind ‘Spitting Feathers’, the band shared:
“‘Spitting Feathers’ is about the rollercoaster of being in a messy relationship. The lyrics describe someone who is completely confused about what their partner wants and what they’re even looking for themselves. They keep trying to make things work, even when it feels like they’re losing who they are. The chorus really hits home with that deep need to feel comfortable and safe with someone. In the end, the song’s about realizing that, no matter how much you wanted it to work, it’s time to move on.
We recorded ‘Spitting Feathers’ over two days at Air Raid Studios in Coulsdon, South London. The studio is built on an old air raid shelter, providing a unique and inspiring atmosphere. Casey, the studio’s owner and producer, offered invaluable insights and suggestions that only a seasoned producer would know, taking our track to the next level. His expertise and guidance were instrumental in shaping the final sound of the song.”
The Pedals have already turned heads within the indie circuit, earning co-signs from the likes of The K’s and The Sherlocks. With notable support slots for Toploader and Pentire under their belt, their rapid ascent has already hallmarked them as one to watch.
