Nadia Reid is returning to Australia this December for her most extensive tour of the country to date, expanding beyond the familiar Sydney and Melbourne circuit for shows across Canberra, Adelaide and regional Victoria.
The UK-based New Zealand singer-songwriter will be joined by longtime guitarist and collaborator Sam Taylor for the run, which arrives as Reid prepares to emerge from another period of writing and recording, including work on a new album in New York.
For Reid, the expanded itinerary also carries a sense of history. Australia played an important role early in her career through her signing to Aaron Curnow’s much-loved Spunk! Records, and the December tour includes her first Adelaide appearance in a decade alongside visits to Castlemaine and Geelong.
“Usually I’m in and out, and only play Melbourne and Sydney, but I’ve always felt Australian shows really hit a special place for me,” Reid says of the tour. “It was also where I got my first break, signing to Aaron Curnow’s now-retired label, Spunk!. To return to Adelaide 10 years later, and visit new spots in regional Victoria, like Castlemaine and Geelong, feels exciting. I’ll be fresh from making my album in New York, and December is always my favourite time of year to play shows in Australia.”
Since arriving with debut album Listen to Formation, Look for the Signs, Reid has built a catalogue distinguished by its precision and restraint. Preservation followed in 2017, with Out of My Province arriving in 2020 before Enter Now Brightness continued her evolution in 2025.
To accompany the Australian tour announcement, Reid has released a new version of ‘Call the Days’, taken from Nadia Reid: Live with Strings. Recorded at Wellington’s Old St Paul’s with the NZ Trio, the 10-track collection revisits songs from across Reid’s catalogue through newly arranged string versions. ‘Call the Days’ arrives alongside an animated video created by New Zealand animator and longtime friend Parry Jones.
The project places Reid’s songwriting in a different frame, with the string arrangements opening additional space around songs whose strength has often rested in what they leave unsaid.
A decade after Australia helped provide one of the first international footholds in her career, Reid is coming back with considerably more ground to cover.
