Track: Sixth Wonder Channel Betrayal And Brutality On New Single ‘Thorn’

Glasgow-based quartet Sixth Wonder return with the thunderous new single ‘Thorn’.

Another example of the bands intense alt-metal soundscapes, ‘Thorn’ brings together tight musicianship and visceral screamo before breaking into a hypnotic and melodic chorus. Steeped in themes of betrayal and emotional fallout, the track is an intensely personal release for the Scottish outfit, drawing from real experiences to craft a gut-punch of a single that leans into their heaviest instincts.

Front-woman Rebekah Kirk really shines on the track, soaring about the punch of the ferociously tight instrumentation that showcases the technical skill and raw energy of the bands live shows.

Complementing the single is a performance music video directed by Joey Aitchison, visually encapsulating the emotional claustrophobia that betrayal brings. Shot in a confined space bathed in icy blues, the band explains: “Going through that emotion it feels like the walls are closing in on you,” adding, “We felt a tight small space with the cold blue colours was a perfect fit for the song.”

Speaking on the track itself, Sixth Wonder say: “‘Thorn’ is about coming to the realisation that you are fighting against someone you thought was on your side. It delves into the confusion of why they have chosen to betray you and reaches the destination of bitter acceptance, that they were never truly behind you from the beginning.”

Self-described as “djent pop” with a cinematic edge, their sound blends soaring hooks with crushing riffs and vivid storytelling. Since forming in 2021, the band have received airplay on BBC Radio 1, clinched Best Metal at the 2023 Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs), and shared stages with Dream State, Fearless Vampire Killers, and Future Static.
