Clementine Douglas is stepping out from behind some of dance music’s biggest records and into the headline spot, with the British singer, songwriter and producer set to return to Australia this September for her first-ever headline tour.
The BRIT Award-winning artist will play shows in Sydney and Melbourne, bringing a voice Australian dance audiences may already know particularly well. Douglas has become an increasingly prominent presence in electronic music through collaborations with artists including Dom Dolla, Calvin Harris and David Guetta, building a career that places songwriting and vocals at the centre of the dancefloor.
The Australian dates mark another significant step for an artist whose path into dance music has been anything but overnight.
Born in Birmingham, Douglas first emerged as part of Kudu Blue, the four-piece electronic outfit that appeared on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2019. Her move into collaborations with producers and DJs subsequently established her as a distinctive vocalist in contemporary UK dance music, eventually earning her Dance Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards.
It was 2023’s ‘Asking’, her collaboration with Sonny Fodera, that pushed her voice considerably further into the mainstream. The track reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart and proved particularly successful in Australia, where it was certified Platinum by ARIA.
That same year brought another sizeable collaboration when Douglas joined Alesso and Dillon Francis on ‘Free’, further establishing her ability to move between house, pop and festival-sized electronic production without becoming anonymous within it.
Her list of collaborators has continued to expand accordingly. Working alongside names including Dom Dolla, Calvin Harris and David Guetta has introduced Douglas to audiences far beyond the UK club circuit, while her soulful vocal style provides a recognisable thread through productions that can otherwise occupy very different corners of electronic music.
Her September shows in Sydney and Melbourne will be the first Australian dates with her name sitting at the top of the bill, shifting the focus from the high-profile producers she has worked alongside to the singer and songwriter behind the voice.
