News: Less Than Jake Announce Australian Tour

Less Than Jake are back where they arguably make the most sense — in front of loud rooms, horns blazing and everything moving just a little faster than it probably should. This October and November, the Gainesville veterans return to Australia and New Zealand with their Circus Down Under tour, bringing three decades of ska-punk muscle memory with them.

For Australian audiences, this isn’t a reunion or a revival — it’s a continuation. Less Than Jake have long held a kind of unofficial residency status down here, each visit met with the same formula: packed venues, relentless singalongs and a crowd that already knows exactly what to do. The band lean into that familiarity, but never coast on it.

Formed in 1992, the five-piece — Chris DeMakes, Roger Lima, Buddy Schaub, Peter “JR” Wasilewski and Matt Yonker — have built a catalogue that sits right in the bloodstream of ska-punk. Brass lines cut through tight, punchy arrangements, hooks land quickly and often, and there’s just enough unpredictability to stop things becoming too polished.

This run is stacked accordingly. The Aquabats! join the tour with their offbeat, high-energy chaos, while The Suicide Machines bring something sharper — faster, more direct, rooted deeper in punk abrasion. It’s a lineup that doesn’t drift far from its core, but stretches it just enough to keep things interesting.

And that’s really the point. Less Than Jake aren’t trying to reinvent anything here. They’re doubling down on what they’ve always done best — energy, precision and the kind of communal release that doesn’t need explaining.
