Mouth Water has released the new album Technology Fueled Dream Obsolescence, led by the heartfelt new single ‘JJ (Give and Take). Written for his daughter, who was born just months before work began on the record, the song captures the fragile, undefined space of first connection through its heartfelt lyricism, over a rich, soundscape which blends neo-soul undertones with vibrant indietronica and his innate electronic pop tendencies.
“JJ is the song I wrote for my daughter,” says Mouth Water, the project of Italian producer and multi-instrumentalist Lawrence Fancelli. “It’s about me and her meeting and not knowing each other yet.”
Within the context of the album, the song stands apart. Much like ‘Winter Days’ from Mouth Water’s 2019 debut, ‘JJ (Give and Take)’ functions as a pause—an emotional reset that contrasts with the more rhythm-driven, more straight synth and production focused material surrounding it. Fancelli has described it as his favourite piece on the record, a sentiment reflected in its unguarded restraint.
Mouth Water is known for blending modern electronic production with vintage influences, moving fluidly between house music and nostalgic electro pop. Fancelli’s musical path began behind the scenes, working as a sound engineer and bass player in both New York and Florence. In 2013, he founded OSB Studio, a recording space housed in a restored farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside, which has since become central to his creative process.
Launched in 2019, the Mouth Water project has steadily grown through a combination of releases, live performances, and collaborations. In recent years, Fancelli has developed hybrid live shows that merge electronic and acoustic instruments with custom visual elements. His performances have taken him from opening for Röyksopp at Florence’s Tenax Club to Primavera Sound 2024 in Barcelona, as well as touring Italy with Sophie and the Giants.
