Track: Alyss – T S I E R

Taken from her forthcoming ‘Motherland’ EPm out via PMR on October 28th, T S I E R (an abbreviation of This Shit Isn’t Even Real) is the new single from Brighton singer-songwriter/producer Alyss. Following on from her debut EP Answers which caught the attention of many of the country’s tastemakers including Toddla T and Mistajam, T S I E R is already the beneficiary of Annie Mac’s hottest track accolade.

Built on these minimal percussive clicks and kicks, she layers her vocal at the beginning before things start to unfurl. The melody is immediate and yet slightly haunting, especially with the backing vocals that soar away (she’s classically trained). there’s something primal about it, with these (sort of) tribal drums driving the song onward. Alyss herself comments on the influences of the track, saying “I’d been studying shaman teachings around that time and there was one principle that I couldn’t get out my head: dreams are real and reality is a dream. Both are equally as real as they are hallucination. The more I dissected the concept, the more it tripped me out. In a good way. It’s mad how such simple words have completely changed how I view existence. I guess making T S I E R was like an audible screenshot of that perspective shift”.
