Fanny Lumsden has teamed up with Australian songwriting heavyweight Paul Kelly for By The River, the latest single from her forthcoming album Traditions, out 30 October.
Written in just ten minutes while Lumsden was in the UK’s Peak District, the track takes inspiration from her time touring with Kelly and their nightly performances of Pretty Place. It’s a deeply personal nod to the rivers, landscapes and memories that run through her music.
The two-time ARIA winner has come a long way from her upbringing on a sheep farm to the stages of Glastonbury, building her career through relentless touring and a fiercely independent approach to Australian country music.
Her fifth album, Traditions, was recorded live in the studio over nine days with her band, The Daddies, and producer Steven Schram, whose credits include Crowded House and The Cat Empire.
Lumsden will launch the record with an outdoor hometown show at Tooma Rec Grounds in the NSW Riverina on 31 October, with bar proceeds supporting local community organisations. A run of regional Victorian and NSW dates follows throughout November, with appearances at Tamworth in January and Riverboats Festival in February.
From country halls to international festival stages, Lumsden keeps her feet firmly planted in regional Australia. And with Paul Kelly joining her on By The River, she’s bringing another heavyweight voice along for the ride.
