Ahead of a national tour and after the release of two albums – their debut, self-titled album in 2024 quickly followed by ‘Negative Energy’ in 2025 (reviewed by me here), Nipaluna/Hobart’s hyperactive TEENS are back with a twin nuclear blast that will clear the cobwebs from your head.
Both ‘Blood On Their Hands’ and ‘Untitled Too’ are like companion pieces: ferocious unbridled punk that seems to have dialed up the intensity and anger since their last outing. Perfectly understandable given the entropic state of the world.
And the lyrics reflect this anger – addressing the state of war in ‘Blood On Their Hands’ with an excoriating takedown of the senseless cruelty:
Crush the weak
Kill the poor
Bomb what’s left
Destroy some more
Complicated game of war
Complicated game of war
‘Untitled Too’ takes on the inequities of a society built on property ownership from a generation permanently locked out:
Pull the ladder on your way up
Tell me lord, how’s the view?
Comfortably high above the class divide
That separates me from you
Positive feelings
About negative gearing
Shelter stealing
Lucidly delivered sentiments about greed in all its forms on a driving thumping buzzsaw beat, filled with passion and justified outrage. This is exactly what punk should deliver, not trust fund bleatings as is the norm these days:
The singles are out today via Tasmanian label No Sleep and available through the link above and via all the usual download and streaming sites.
TEENS are about to head off on tour – details are below and you can get tickets here.
