News: Nameless Friends Release ‘Clara,’ Third Single from Sophomore Album ‘The Quiet Part, Loudly’

Toronto-based rock collective Nameless Friends continue the rollout of their anticipated sophomore album, The Quiet Part, Loudly, due April 15, 2026, with the release of the third single, ‘Clara’.

‘Clara’ is a powerful feminist anthem that draws upon classic rock and punk traditions, pairing driving rhythmic downbeats and fuzzy guitar work with Riot Grrrl–inspired lyricism. The track recounts the story of Clara Immerwahr, a pioneering chemist, pacifist, and early feminist whose life was tragically shaped by systemic misogyny. Immerwahr’s husband, Fritz Haber, promised to support both her scientific ambitions and pacifist ideals but ultimately sidelined her work, excluded her contributions from research that earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and led Germany’s chemical weapons program during World War I. Soon after Haber departed for the front, Immerwahr took her own life in 1915, reportedly dying in her son’s arms.

The track captures the essence of the story both through its lyrical storytelling but also the biting intensity of the delivery, ultimately resulting in a track which is raw, gritty and captures the poetic songwriting paired with driving intensity which stylises the upcoming album.

The band explains, “Haber promised to honour her career ambitions and pacifism if she agreed to marry him, then promptly went back on his word when she gave birth to their son. He cut her contributions out of his Nobel Prize research, and agreed to head up the chemical weapons program against her pacifist wishes. Shortly after Haber left for the front, Clara committed suicide in broad daylight on their front lawn, dying in her son’s arms.”

For Nameless Friends, the single transforms this historical tragedy into a contemporary statement on resistance and agency. The band frames ‘Clara’ as both a tribute and a call to action against systemic oppression, continuing a thematic trajectory established in their 2023 debut, Blasphemy.

The Quiet Part, Loudly, produced in collaboration with acclaimed engineer Nyles Spencer—whose credits include The Tragically Hip, Broken Social Scene, and Alvvays—draws inspiration from Nameless Friends’ extensive touring across Canada. The album merges elements of heartland rock, folk, punk, and protest music, exploring themes such as human rights, generational trauma, surveillance culture, and the legacy of colonialism.

“This album is a love letter with constructive criticism to our home country,” the band explain. “If you didn’t care about improving the relationship, you wouldn’t give criticism. It’s about positioning yourself in the midst of culture wars—and, in some cases, real, literal violence—and choosing to remain true to yourself.”

The album’s eclectic sound juxtaposes prairie-gothic stompers, plaintive folk ballads, and extended suite-like compositions. Spencer’s production emphasizes both raw spontaneity and meticulous craft, drawing out the band’s full musical range while maintaining the energy and immediacy that have become their hallmark.
