There are collaborations that feel engineered and then there are the ones that arrive like a late-night group chat turned into a song. ‘LEZ GO!’, the new single from Melbourne-born, LA-based artist G Flip featuring Canadian indie-rock four-piece The Beaches, lands firmly in the latter camp.

Released through AWAL Recordings, the track appears midway through G Flip’s biggest-ever Australian headline tour and has already been stress-tested onstage in Brisbane and Sydney. When the song kicks in live, it feels less like a debut and more like a victory lap for a creative friendship that has been brewing for years.

Backseat Mafia recently caught both artists at the Hordern Pavilion, where the energy from the crowd directed at these artists was impossible to miss. That same energy runs through ‘LEZ GO!’, a bright, punchy anthem about championing the people closest to you.

For G Flip, the song represents a shift in perspective. Known for emotionally raw songwriting that often leans into heartbreak and vulnerability, they say writing about joy can be surprisingly difficult. But Dream Ride, their third studio album released in 2025, sees them widening the lens. ‘LEZ GO!’ was one of the first songs written during those sessions and lingered as a demo until the perfect collaborators arrived.

Enter The Beaches. The Toronto band already share history with G Flip, having worked together on their track ‘Last Girls at the Party’. When the demo landed in their inbox, the response was immediate. They jumped in to write and record the second verse, transforming the track into a genuine cross-continental exchange.

The result is a rush of neon-lit pop-rock energy that sits comfortably alongside the sonic palette of Dream Ride. The album itself leans into glossy ‘80s textures while maintaining the candid storytelling that has defined G Flip’s work since their breakout years.

And the momentum behind that era has been relentless. G Flip placed three songs in the 2025 triple j Hottest 100 with ‘Disco Cowgirl’, ‘In Another Life’ and ‘Bed on Fire’, extending their remarkable streak of appearances to eight consecutive years. They’ve also completed a sprawling North American run, headlined London’s Brixton Academy and earned recognition from the LGBTQ+ community through inclusion in Out Magazine’s prestigious Out100 list.

Now, with ‘LEZ GO!’, G Flip and The Beaches deliver a track that feels like a snapshot of the present moment: loud, celebratory and rooted in the kind of friendship that makes touring life feel like a shared adventure.
