News: Sunday Smoke Return with ‘Complex’

There’s a certain electricity that comes with a band hitting their stride, and for Sunday Smoke, that moment feels firmly within reach. Returning with their latest single, ‘Complex’, the Surrey trio deliver a track that not only reaffirms their indie sensibilities but also pushes them into more emotionally resonant and commercially viable territory.

From its opening moments, ‘Complex’ surges with confidence and purpose. Biting strummed guitars, warming bass and tight drums give the track a palpable sense of energy under the melodic vocals. As the track progresses into its chorus the track introduces some beautiful nuanced guitar lines as the vocals deliver delicate, emotionally resonant lyricism, reflected in the considered delivery.

At its heart, ‘Complex’ is a story of shifting relationships, specifically the fragile moment when friendship is altered by unreciprocated romantic feelings. The band leans into this tension, crafting a track that moves between introspection and urgency. Sitting somewhere between modern indie and 90s nostalgia, the track brings an abundance of youthful flare with genuine emotional and musical substance.

Speaking on the track, the band explains:
“This song is about when a close friend catches feelings, and the friendship fades. It is about missing who they were, feeling guilty for not feeling the same, and realising you might be in the same situation with someone else…”

Hailing from Surrey, Sunday Smoke have quickly established themselves as ones to watch. Since their debut in 2025, the three-piece have steadily built momentum, amassing thousands of streams and earning a reputation as regular fixtures on the London live circuit. Their sound draws from the rich lineage of indie and guitar-pop greats, yet there is a freshness to their approach that keeps things firmly forward-looking.
