Premiere: ‘Ready For It’ – after 28 years, The Remotes exclusively unveil their dreamy, evocative new single.

Some things age like a fine wine. Originally a duo comprised of Ollie Browne (Art of Fighting/The Hoodangers) and Kristian Brenchley (S:Bahn, Degreaser), The Remotes released their debut album, ‘Lonely Tremor’, back in 1998, and they are now back with a fantastic new track ‘Ready for It’ that we are honoured to premiere here today.

Now a trio with the addition of Laura MacFarlane (Ninetynine/Sleater-Kinney), the new track sparkles with a gentle acoustic blush and yearning vocals, elements of fellow Antipodeans like The Apartments or The Go-Betweens seeping through every shimmering note. There is a wistful, dreamy elegance that evokes languid bleached sunshine afternoons filled with nostalgia and reflection, accompanied by an ice cold glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc.

Browne says of the track:

‘Ready For It’ is a meditation on the spark of early romance and how the sublime can flourish within the mundane if you just let yourself be open and ready for it.

It’s certainly been well worth the wait:

Another proof positive that creativity has no use-by date. ‘Ready For It’ is out tomorrow (26 February) via Hobbledehoy Records and will be available through the link above and via all the usual download and streaming sites. It heralds a new album that will be out soon.

The Remotes will be launching the single on 14 March in Naarm/Melbourne – tickets available here and details are below.

Ollie Browne is the singer and guitarist from ARIA-award-winning rock band Art of Fighting, who have released four albums. The band’s music has been released in Japan, Taiwan, Europe and the US and AOF have toured extensively both locally and overseas. As a drummer he’s also recorded and toured internationally with influential trad-punk jazz band The Hoodangers, and also as a member of C.W. Stoneking’s Primitive Horn Orchestra.

Kristian Brenchley is a guitarist who as well as being a founding member of The Remotes has been active in the Melbourne music scene since playing his first gig as a 16 year old at The Royal Artillery Hotel in 1990. Kristian was later part of noise rockers S:Bahn who bought out a few records in the ‘90s and again in the past five years. He lived and played music in NYC for 15 years as a member of Woman (Bang Records) Ballroom (Ever Never Records) and Degreaser (Ever Never Records).

Laura MacFarlane is a multi instrumentalist singer songwriter. In addition to her solo work she has performed in many Australian and overseas bands. Laura is founding member and mainstay of Australian indie band Ninetynine, releasing seven albums and touring both locally and internationally. Laura is an original member of US based band Sleater-Kinney having performed on the critically acclaimed ‘Call the Doctor’ album.
