Premiere: With links to Australian musical royalty, New York’s Ruby & the Clumsy Dollies exclusively unveil their cool new single ‘Right Through Me’ ahead of debut album release.

We are very honoured to premiere the new single ‘Right Through Me’ from New York outfit Ruby and the Clumsy Dollies. It’s their second release and comes off their forthcoming debut album ‘New and Improved’ due out on 24 April 2026 through the inimitable Cheersquad Records.

Founded and fronted by Ruby Rogers-Garcia (daughter of Australian rock royalty Tim Rogers from You Am I), the band’s single ‘Right Though Me’ is an atmospheric and dreamy track highlighted by steel guitars and a dappling, rippling sound, laconic and louche. There is an indelible pop melody with hints of sixties girl groups like The Ronettes mixed in with a Sarah Records/C86 indie sensibility, all beehive haircuts, kohl eyeliner and a thousand yard stare. It’s garage rock with a velvet lining, leaning nonchalantly against a wall with a cigarette and a Jack Kerouac novel tucked under the arm.

Rogers-Garcia says of the track:

It’s the first song on the record, and the most vulnerable in my opinion. It encapsulates the feeling of communicating without saying a word and being able to read someone’s mind (unspoken communication, emotional transference). It is reflective of the occurrence of someone knowing you more than you know yourself and the fear that comes with that.

There is an air of yearning and melancholia throughout, a delightful mélange of Belle & Sebastian, Dusty Springfield and The Breeders, all collaborating on a Burt Bacharach track:

‘Right Through Me’ is out tomorrow (Thursday, 29 January) and you can get it though the link above and via all the usual download sites.

Of the new album, ‘New and Improved’, Rogers-Garcia says of the title:

Being my first album, it felt like a bit of a humorous touch. The record has a bit of everything – sad, romantic, intimate songs, and more wild ones, more ironic and playful. It’s nice not having to take yourself too seriously!

Rogers-Garcia studied violin for years but swapped this for electric guitar, and we are clearly the beneficiaries.

The band began when Rogers-Garcia joined forces with drummer Aaron Mika (Televisionairies). Producers Rocio and Matt Verta-Ray supplied some supplemental bass, keys, and guitar. Based on the evidence of this track, it will be something to look forward to.
