Track: Cool Sounds Release New Single ‘Like That’

Cool Sounds

Melbourne’s Cool Sounds have released ‘Like That’ which is the title track off their upcoming new album, due for release on 7 October.

The band, with Dainis Lacey the only regular member, are known for their jangly, shoegaze-inspired indie rock. On the new album, Lacey plays almost every instrument on the record, with a little help from his friends – mostly multi-instrumentalist Dylan Young, saxophonist Pierce Morton and German-born vocalist Ambrin Hasnain (with whom Dainis also plays in Partner Look). Lacey has mused about the origins of ‘Like That’.

“I sometimes like to create worlds and narratives that are too large to fit into a song and then pick and choose parts. In this track a gym rat and a business man become unlikely friends, and both have near death experiences. When I was writing this I was thinking about 80s shoegaze bands like Jesus and Mary Chain. It’s a sound that feels equally at home with both blissfully romantic or somewhat seedier content.”

The song is clearly inspired by the sound of the Jesus and Mary Chain, but it is a modern take and the result is a gloriously contemporary track that fuses fuzzy guitars with an irresistible melody.

‘Like That’ will be released on blue/green half-half vinyl and digital on Friday October 7, and is available for pre-order now.
