On Thursday, July 13th, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, or The Swell Season, took to Vicar Street to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their Academy Award winning musical film ‘Once’.

The Irish-Czech duo have reuinted after quite some time away from touring together for a string of shows accross America next month. However, Hansard said that it was important for him to start this celebratory tour in Dublin.

Support on the night came from Dublin-based singer songwriter, and Grafton Street busker, Leah Moran.

Leah finished her set with her new song ‘Somebody’s Baby’, which was released today.

Then, following a short interval, at 9pm, walked Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, followed by an ensemble of talented musicians.

Performing a mix of Once classics, as well as their own originals, both released and unreleased, as well as a few covers, Glen and Markéta had the audience in the palm of their hands.

Glen’s high energy madness, as he danced around the stage behind his iconic Takamine broken guitar, contrasted with the sweet calmness of Markéta, who sat at the piano for most of the night, and made for a perfect evening of music.

The Swell Season kick off their US tour on August 8th and all information can be found on www.theswellseason.com.
