Live Review: Calexico / Alejandro y Maria Laura / Mariachi Las Adelitas – Paradiso, Amsterdam 10.5.22 – Le Trianon, Paris 12.05.22 – 02 Kentish Town Forum, London 14.05.22

Calexico finally returned to Europe after a 4-year hiatus (apart from the collaborative Iron and Wine tour of 2019) with a full 7-piece band and celebrating their hugely anticipated 10th studio album-‘El Mirador. Recorded in Tucson in 2021 at the studio of Sergio Mendoza, long time band member, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Full of cumbia influences and desert vibes it is a joyful, exotic return to their roots. Europe has always loved Calexico and the ecstatic audiences were treated to a variety of the new songs, plus some carefully crafted versions of classics such as Black Heart, Man Made Lake, Fortune Teller and Stray.

They choose their support bands with care, always willing to support different artists, who complement their music. From Lima, Peru we had the wonderful man and wife duo Alejandro y Maria Laura and in London only: the all-female mariachi band Mariachi Las Adelitas. Could not have been more perfect.
