Jason Pierce (aka J Spaceman), the lead creative force behind Spiritualized, brought his 9 person juggernaut to Australia to play 2 exclusive headlining events, one of those being at Dark Mofo 2022.
Spiritualized played an extraordinary set, covering 30 years worth of material, from their beginnings on 1992’s Lazer Guided Missiles through to this year’s latest release, Everything Was Beautiful.
The band, in their now customary C-shaped stage formation, pummelled out their familiar “wall-of-sound” wizardry to the capacity crowd who had flocked to Mac 02 from near and far to catch this legendary neo-psychedelic outfit strut their stuff. Songs such as the driving Hey Jane, and the motorik She Kissed Me wowed the large crowd, many of whom were seeing the band for the first time. The entire performance reeked of a band still on top of their game after many years, and went a long way to prove Pierce’s belief that music is the best medication.
Aside from the superb music/sound quality and mesmerizing light show, it was simply wonderful to see the continuing return of international musicians to our shores and the enthusiastic response from a lockdown-weary audience keen to attend en masse..
