James Blunt played the Live at the Iveagh Gardens series on Sunday the 10th of July with support from Toucan. He was greeted by soaring temperatures in the Iveagh Gardens on a beautiful sunny Sunday in Dublin.

Toucan provided the support on the night laying down some lovely jazzy rock tracks that included electric guitars, bass, drums and even a Saxophone. The band got the crowd moving and grooving from early on with the high point of the set being a cover of ‘Free Bird’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd withsome extra jazzy times courtesy of the saxophone.

James Blunts band were to take the stage to offer a musical introduction to the set before being joined by James, who brought outrageous energy from the moment he took the stage. He was met with tremendous roars from the crowd as he broke into his first song ‘Breathe’. At the start of the second song ‘Wisemen’, James ran around the stage screaming to which the crowd responded with even louder screams.

After the mayhem of the first two songs, he brought the energy down for ‘Carry you Home ‘ a touching song about loss which the crowd sang back every word. The energy was brought back up by the next song ‘Adrenaline’ before going through the roof for his hit ‘High’.

From this point on James brought all the hits including ‘ I really Want You’, ‘Same Mistake’, ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Stay the Night’s and ending with ’1973’.

The level of musicianship from his band and the showmanship from James was impeccable from start to finish and left the crowd wanting more. A great outcome for any artist. I was thoroughly impressed by James Blunt and look forward to catching him again in the future!
