New Music: Kings Of Tomorrow – Flutez (incl. Audiojack remix)

Out now on 2020Vision comes two fresh takes on the classic Kings Of Tomorrow (Sandy Rivera) track ‘Flutez’, firstly from Rivera himself and then Audiojack. Rivera has been releasing music under his K.O.T. guise for just about twenty years, through influential labels such as Strictly Rhythm, NRK, Defected, Slip ‘n’ Slide, and Deep Vision – which originally released the track at the dawn of the milllenium.

Rivera takes the original hook from the original, and instead surrounds it with this almost suffocating electronic hue, as the bassline insistently copies the flute line. The gently undulating percussion sees pads, and rippling cymbal sounds urge the track onwards. It’s a smoother, deeper version than the original, but no less brilliant.

On the flip Audiojack drags the flute through some rugged drum style, its fragmented form appearing first and gradually approaching over this pounding drum accompaniment. As it stumbles onward, the muscular bassline only making fleeting appearance as the drum patterns become ever more complex and layered, it gives itself over to good time, dancefloor house.

There again, it always was an essential tune.
