I have this pair of trainers (or sneakers for our American readers) the I’ve had them for years. The reason I can’t bear to let them go, is that firstly I love the style of them, they’re comfortable and they’ve never let me down. Because I associate them with so many memories, I can’t ever image ever falling out of love with those trainers, never mind how they age (and I’ve had them for 20 years, so they have aged somewhat).

I have pretty much the same thoughts about Wymeswold’s The aware Pictures. They’ve only been with me for five albums so far, including the much-lauded City Forgiveness that we wrote about, and fell for in a big way, here on Backseat Mafia. But they are a band with whom I associate memories, that I love the style of, and during the course of those five albums have never let me down.

Out February 17th is the bands new single, Missoula, taken from that most recent album. The album was written about (and during) a road trip the band took through America when they did a six-week tour with Allo Darlin’, and is the name of a town in Montana. “It’s a love song, pure and simple. A love song to motels and beer bellies” says Dave Tattersall.

It has this sort of real stripped back indie feel about it, organic with just the drums and guitar as accompaniment. But it has melody, real catchy melody which is only accentuated by these little chiming guitar interjections. If this doesn’t bring a smile to your face, well, nothing will.
