News: Banquet’s Back: Bloc Party Bring Silent Alarm Anniversary Tour Down Under

Bloc Party are making their triumphant return to Australia and New Zealand this August, marking 20 years in the game and the anniversary of their game-changing debut album, Silent Alarm. And they’re not coming alone—California’s Young The Giant are hopping on board as special guests, returning to Aussie shores for the first time in 14 years.

Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Christchurch, and Auckland will be treated to a career-spanning setlist, with Silent Alarm played alongside Bloc Party’s greatest hits—think “Banquet,” “Helicopter,” “This Modern Love,” “Flux,” and a truckload more. With two decades, six albums, and a back catalogue packed with anthems, this tour is set to be nothing short of legendary.

Bloc Party’s rise is the stuff of indie folklore. Back in 2003, Kele Okereke passed a copy of “She’s Hearing Voices” to Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos and BBC Radio 1’s Steve Lamacq, who wasted no time spinning it on-air and hailing it as “genius”. From there, it was a straight shot to festival main stages—Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Coachella—you name it, they’ve owned it.

Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm remains a touchstone of 21st-century British guitar music, scooping up NME Album of the Year (2005) and Indie Rock Album of the Year at the PLUG Awards (2006), plus a Mercury Prize nomination. The album’s legacy? Indie floors still quake to its opening bars.

Meanwhile, Young The Giant are set to bring their genre-defying, chart-smashing energy to Australia for the first time since 2010. With over 1.8 billion streams, multi-platinum hits, and anthems like “Cough Syrup,” “My Body,” and “Mind Over Matter”, their arrival is just another reason to get hyped.
