News: Chicanes Shine On New Single ‘Fray’, Debut Album ‘Something Beautiful’ Due June 13th

Norwich alt-rock band Chicanes return with Fray’, a final preview of their upcoming debut album Something Beautiful due for release June 13th.

Bringing an evocative blend of haunting musicality and high-octane, fuzzy alt-rock, the track moves between its angular, math-rock flavoured opening to a move intense heavy rock feel as the track progresses. Opening with the breakneck paced awkward drums and swirling strummed guitar of its opening, the ethereal lead vocal melody soon enters, pulling the track forward as more intense, fuzzy guitar tones gradually enter.

As the track reaches its chorus, the suspense of the verse pays off in a wall smashing cymbals. The track continues to pull forwards with a sense of purpose before closing with a cinematic, half-time final section.

Talking about the single, the band explain: “The writing of the track was inspired by Thom Yorke’s Hearing Damage and Loathe’s Sad Cartoon. We really wanted to blend some ethereal and atmospheric textures with a sense of energy and raw intensity. Thematically the track explores the pain of loss and emotional disconnection.”

‘Fray’ is the final single before the release of Something Beautiful, an album that builds on the band’s reputation for balancing vulnerability with explosive energy. Across the album, Chicanes deliver their boldest and most complete sounding work to date, produced by two-time Grammy Award winner Adrian Bushby, whose credits include Muse, Foo Fighters, U2, and Placebo.

The band will headline Voodoo Daddy’s in Norwich on June 20th, joined by Fleas and AJQJ to support the album release.
