G Flip has returned with a sharp sonic pivot in the form of ‘Disco Cowgirl’, a breakup track soaked in retro-pop sheen. Premiered via triple j and out now through AWAL Recordings, the single marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Melbourne-born artist – one that’s all sequins, synths and self-reinvention.

Written and produced alongside long-time collaborator Aidan Hogg, ‘Disco Cowgirl’ trades the grit of G’s earlier sound for glossier textures: reverb-heavy drums, lush synthesizers, and a soaring chorus that lands somewhere between euphoria and melancholy. It’s a track that unpacks the brief intensity of a love that’s already vanished – equal parts catharsis and confetti.

Recorded in their Los Angeles studio, the track is another reminder of G Flip’s all-hands-on-deck approach. A drummer first and foremost, G takes on most of the instrumentation here, underscoring the DIY ethic that’s threaded through their career, even as their sound continues to evolve.

There’s also a quiet weight to ‘Disco Cowgirl’ – a reflection of the way G Flip continues to challenge norms around identity and genre. As a queer, non-binary artist with a background in rock and a foot in pop’s future, they remain one of Australian music’s most dynamic shapeshifters.
