George Clinton, the godfather of funk and one of music’s true visionaries, is returning to Australia this September for a string of East Coast tour dates that promise pure cosmic chaos. From his Parliament and Funkadelic collectives to his fingerprint on hip hop and beyond, Clinton’s influence is the stuff of legend — and he’s still not done.

With Parliament/Funkadelic, Clinton created a kaleidoscopic world of Afrofuturism, psych-rock, soul, and unfiltered funk. Albums like Maggot Brain and America Eats Its Young weren’t just concept records — they were revolutions in rhythm. By the close of the ‘70s, Clinton’s P-Funk empire had racked up 39 charting singles, including R&B number ones like “Flash Light” and “One Nation Under a Groove,” and seven gold or platinum albums.

“We have a blast every time we come to Australia. Aussie’s know what it means to have a good time: the national motto should be free your mind and your ass will follow. My band has been funkin’ real hard lately…you don’t wanna miss what we be throwin down. Come on out and get funked up!” – George Clinton

If that wasn’t enough, Clinton’s solo era helped shape the DNA of West Coast hip hop, his music sampled by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, and Drake. Whether on record or on stage, Clinton’s name is synonymous with sound evolution.

Now well into his fifth decade of touring, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is still bringing the funk with undiminished fire. This Spring, Australia gets a front-row seat to the mothership’s return.
