Nashville-born, New York-based singer-songwriter Lauren Minear has unveiled her highly anticipated third album, BOXING DAY, coinciding with the announcement that her song ‘Lightweight’ is being considered for this year’s Grammy Awards. The release marks a significant milestone in a career defined by lyric-driven storytelling, emotional honesty, and a deeply personal connection to her audience.
Minear’s journey in music has been far from linear. Drawing from her experiences as a therapist and mother, her work delves into the nuances of vulnerability, emotion, and self-recognition. Earlier this year, she was invited to join the Recording Academy’s 2025 New Member Class, reflecting her growing influence and recognition within the industry.
BOXING DAY continues Minear’s exploration of motherhood, relationships, and womanhood, tackling themes of anger, codependency, and conflict with loved ones. The album follows the release of her singles ‘Lightweight’ and ‘Bullshit’, both of which showcase Minear’s signature lyrical precision and crystalline vocals.
Standout track ‘Bruise’ examines the challenge of loving someone who causes pain. Minear explains, “It was painful to write, and I couldn’t have done it unless I was in the stable relationship I am in now. It’s a retrospective on the times in my life when I confused codependency for empathy. It’s one of the most vulnerable songs on the album, and one of my favorites for that reason.”
While ‘Bullshit’ emerged from a place of anger, ‘Bruise’ presents a stripped-back, dynamic side to Minear’s artistry. She recalls writing much of the album during a retreat in Woodstock, NY: “One day, my producer, Dan Weeks, suggested a change of scenery to get ideas moving. We went out to the garage apartment on the property where we were staying, but we hadn’t turned the heat on, so it was freezing. The three of us sat in hats and coats to work our way through this fragile idea I had brought with me. It ended up having its own unique sounds that added dimension to the album, and I think that’s at least in part because of the conditions we wrote it in.”
The album is a radiant addition to the artists growing catalogue as she continues to hit new milestones.
