With the release of her evocative new single, ‘The Intangible Man’, songwriter and artist Melody Briar offers a haunting new glimpse into her forthcoming debut album, Green Aventurine.
Opening with strummed acoustic guitars, beautifully tight vocal harmonies the track grows through sweeping synth strings, textured acoustic guitar, minimal electronic drums and delicate atmospheric production to showcase a experimental, alternative core. ‘The Intangible Man’ expands Briar’s sonic world while preserving the intimate songwriting and emotional candour at the heart of her work.
Cinematic, dreamlike, tracing the unsettling transformation that follows loss, the track is beautifully intimate whilst retaining a layered, interesting musciality.
Echoing the likes of artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Caroline Polachek, and The Cranberries as much as it does elements of trip-hop, it’s an exciting and beautifully nuanced example of Brair’s potential.
‘The Intangible Man’ also provides another revealing chapter in Green Aventurine, a full-length project that confronts grief, vulnerability, love, memory, and impermanence without attempting to offer easy answers. Across the album, Briar transforms intensely personal experiences into songs that leave room for listeners to confront their own memories, losses, and processes of healing.
That emotional directness is rooted in Briar’s musical background. A classically trained musician, she spent years studying piano, voice, and classical repertoire, developing an instinct for composition and musical storytelling that now informs her songwriting. Following a period of profound personal loss, she began writing original music as a way of processing grief and transformation. The resulting work is defined by lyrical vulnerability, nuanced emotional landscapes, and a willingness to explore experiences that can be difficult to put into words.
The piano remains central to that process. It is the instrument through which Briar begins each song and the foundation from which her artistic voice continues to develop. Her music creates space for difficult conversations around death, guilt, love, memory, and healing, finding connection not by simplifying those experiences but by giving them room to exist.
