Continuing their impressive creative streak into 2024, LA-based duo Merlot Embargo returns to the spotlight with their latest single, ‘Alone’.

Marking their third release of the year, the indie rock duo reasserts their position as a bold and innovative creative force. Known for their authentic sound and heartfelt lyrics, Merlot Embargo effortlessly combines elements of nostalgia with modern influences to craft music that feels both fresh and timeless.

‘Alone’ opens with a delicate guitar line as distant filtered vocals echo around softly pulling listeners in before unfolding into a ska-inflected groove that anchors the song’s rhythmic foundation. As the chorus hits, the emotional weight of the track becomes apparent.

Into the second verse, the rhythm shifts, losing the offbeat energy and highlighting a more emotive undertone. The dynamic shifts between heartfelt introspection and uplifting energy, capturing the essence of feeling isolated yet hopeful as twinkling synths sparkle across the soundscape the the track builds to a swirling climax.

Reflecting on the song’s inspiration, the band explains, “We wrote this song during the isolation of the pandemic, but it touches on many universal themes. The main one is the exhaustion of living the solo life and wondering if you’ll ever find your someone.” The track’s production also highlights the authenticity that has become synonymous with the band. Bassist Jeremy took the reins on production, and the live recording of most instruments injects a raw, organic feel into the song.
