Peter Cat have released a new live EP, In And Out of Glasgow And London: Peter Cat Live via Trapped Animal Records. Captured during a 2023 performance at Folklore in East London, the release documents a pivotal moment for the band as they shift from their earlier indie-pop origins into more expansive, experimental territory.
Recorded during their co-headline UK tour with Jeremy Tuplin, the EP finds Peter Cat in transition, evolving from a solo bedroom project into a fully formed four-piece live outfit. Across five tracks, including early live versions of Starchambermaterial and reimagined back-catalogue cuts, the band stretch and reshape their sound into something more volatile and ambitious, anchored by Graham Gillespie’s distinctive vocal storytelling.
“This tour was definitely the first time we started to feel like a band, like a real unit – as opposed to a bunch of friends gathered together in a room who were kind enough to be playing my songs. I guess you could say a sense of mission crystallised between the four of us. The four distinct elements – the way Kev plays the drums, the way Kylie plays guitar, the way Jack plays bass – started to inform my songwriting process too around this time, in a kind of feedback loop that would
eventually create the album Starchamber, which was written to be played specifically by them.”
The EP captures that sense of emergence in real time. Nicholas opens with slinky urgency, ‘Blue Raspberry’ is reborn as a vast post-rock surge, and later Starchamber and INSTRUMENTALITY arrive fully formed before their studio counterparts were released. It closes with fan favourite Melon Dating Simulator!!, reframed as a heavier, more chaotic live force.
Beyond its setlist, In And Out of Glasgow And London: Peter Cat Live also marks the beginning of the band’s relationship with Trapped Animal Records, forged through their London circuit connections and cemented at this very show, an early step toward the label releasing their later album Starchamber.
