Stefaniii releases the debut single ‘Catalyst’, a gritty indie-rock fizzer that brings a modern edge and a strong early 00’s indie aesthetic. The project Armenian-British composer and filmmaker Richard Melkonian, the debut single captures a radiant potential for exciting guitar driven soundscapes comparable to the likes of The Strokes, White Lies, whilst bringing undertones of an 80s delivery akin to the likes of A Flock Of Seagulls and Wang Chung.
Bursting into life from its opening moments, ‘Catalyst’ explodes with an emphatic roar. Dynamic percussion collides with roaring guitar lines, creating a propulsive foundation that demands attention. Near-spoken-word vocals lend the track an authentic backbone, allowing it to straddle the space between post-punk cool and indie-rock urgency. As the song builds, it erupts into a gritty chorus, where its guitar-driven core is elevated by emphatic, synthesised lifts that amplify its dancefloor appeal.
Seamlessly shifting between sections, ‘Catalyst’ maintains momentum throughout. Jangle-driven guitar lines paint vivid images of nightlife and romance, capturing fleeting moments and charged encounters. At its heart, the track is an ode to living in the moment, celebrating intensity and impulse while cementing Stefaniii as a promising artist to watch.
Speaking about the track, Stefaniii explains:
“Catalyst is about getting hooked on a moment, that one stare, that one high, that you want over and over again. It’s about the bittersweet ironies of nightlife and searching for desire in places you will never find it.”
