Track: Jordan Laser Shares “Holiday”, A Slow-Burning Alt-Pop Cut

Sydney’s Jordan Laser continues to carve out her space in the alt-pop landscape with the release of “Holiday,” a slow-burning meditation on emotional escape, tangled affection, and isolation. The track is the second single from her upcoming EP and follows the brooding pulse of “Howling.” Both songs were co-produced with Alex Markwell (The Delta Riggs).

Built on smoky vocals and cinematic restraint, “Holiday” carries echoes of Lykke Li, Mazzy Star and early Lana Del Rey without falling into pastiche. Instead, Laser’s songwriting draws strength from understatement—her voice tracing each lyric with clarity and control, never overstated but always purposeful.

“Holiday is about being with someone who thinks the grass might be greener somewhere else. Being in that place makes you question everything. Does this person want me, or just an escape? Am I the destination, or just a pit-stop along the way? That kind of feeling.”

Lyrically, the song explores distance—both emotional and physical—as a way to process complicated love. The arrangement leans into late-90s textures, layered with ambient synths and sparse guitar lines that frame Laser’s vocal with enough space to breathe.

Laser first emerged under the mentorship of Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie and Rob Hirst, who produced her debut EP Just Like Autumn when she was just 20. Since then, she’s taken a more independent route, self-producing a series of introspective singles such as “Battleship,” “Under the Wheel” and “100 Days of Solitude,” the latter co-produced with Jack Moffitt (The Preatures) and supported by both Double J and RUSSH magazine.

Earlier this year, “Howling” premiered on triple j Unearthed and found a wider audience via Nova and Spotify playlist support. With “Holiday,” Laser continues to refine her vision—one that favours atmosphere, emotional detail, and a sense of intimacy that rewards close listening.
