News: The Jesus Lizard Break 30-Year Silence with Frenzied Australian Return

The Jesus Lizard are back – and they’re dragging their chaos all the way to Australia for the first time since 1994.

Formed in the scuzzy underbelly of Austin’s noise-rock scene back in 1987, The Jesus Lizard built a reputation on pure, unfiltered menace. Now, 30 years after their last Aussie detonation, they’re finally returning to rip the roof off with a string of shows that promise as much sweat, screaming, and sonic violence as ever.

David Yow still sounds like a man being tasered mid-exorcism, while Duane Denison’s guitar work remains surgical and sadistic in equal measure. That trademark rhythm section – the unstoppable David Wm. Sims on bass and machine-precise Mac McNeilly on drums – hasn’t lost a step either. If anything, they’ve gotten meaner.

Their 2024 comeback album Rack – the band’s first in 26 years – is a feral, foaming rebuke to the sanitised sludge of modern rock radio. Eleven tracks of bloodletting precision and nihilistic glee, it’s a reminder that The Jesus Lizard were never here to make friends – they were here to leave marks.
