News: Thrown head back to Australia with a formidable four-band metalcore bill

Swedish metalcore outfit Thrown are heading back to Australia in February, returning a year after selling out every date of their 2025 Australian headline tour.

This time, they are stepping into bigger territory. The run will be Thrown’s largest Australian headline tour to date, with a four-band bill bringing Connecticut metalcore group Boundaries, Pittsburgh’s 156/Silence and Newcastle heavyweights Volatile Ways along for the ride.

Thrown’s ascent has been remarkably quick. Emerging from Stockholm with a particularly blunt collision of metalcore, hardcore and breakdown-heavy aggression, the band have spent the past few years touring alongside Knocked Loose, Counterparts, Fit For A King, While She Sleeps and Wage War. That relentless schedule has translated into an audience well beyond the usual underground heavy circles, with the band now drawing more than one million monthly Spotify listeners and hundreds of millions of streams.

Their latest single ‘critic’, released through Arising Empire, keeps that momentum moving. Built around punishing grooves, abrupt breakdowns and vocals delivered with barely concealed contempt, the track turns its attention towards online commentary, performative outrage and the strange economy that has developed around opinions, metrics and controversy.

Joining them are Boundaries, who return to Australia following their recent sold-out run supporting The Plot In You. Their new album Yearning: the unbeautiful after was recorded with producer Drew Fulk and stretches across 14 tracks, including appearances from The Plot In You’s Landon Tewers on ‘Crowned and crucified’ and Make Them Suffer on ‘Torn wide open’.

For 156/Silence, however, this tour marks their first trip to Australia. The Pittsburgh band arrive with a sound that pulls atmosphere and melody into some considerably darker corners of modern hardcore and metalcore. Their sixth studio album From A Distance is due September 4 through Pure Noise Records, giving Australian audiences an early opportunity to see the next phase of the band in person.

Opening the shows are Newcastle’s Volatile Ways, whose self-described “hard mosh deathcore made by hardcore kids” leaves little ambiguity about their intentions. The four-piece bring hardcore, deathcore and an unapologetically feminine identity together, having already shared stages with The Acacia Strain, Fit For An Autopsy, Bodysnatcher, Kublai Khan, Dying Wish, Speed and Thrown themselves.

Thrown’s last Australian headline tour demonstrated that the audience is already here. Twelve months later, they return with bigger shows, three formidable supports and a bill that traces several different edges of contemporary heavy music.
