Award-winning Middlesbrough music festival Twisterella have announced their return with a special 10 year anniversary celebration on Saturday October 12th 2024, and have shared the first names set to perform at this year’s event.

Leading the much-loved Teesside festival’s announcement are Belfast post-punk trio Chalk, noisy Norwegians Pom Poko, and Durham’s indie-pop favourites Martha, along with an impressive supporting cast of talent from the local area and further afield.

Vital to the region and its grassroots scene, Twisterella is widely celebrated for its progressive outlook and steadfast commitment to nurturing new talent, creating both a much-needed platform for emerging bands along with opportunities for established artists to perform in front of appreciative music-loving audiences. Emblematic of this are cherished local Middlesbrough heroes Be Quiet. Shout Loud!, who will emerge from a five year hiatus to perform at Twisterella, marking a decade since they played the very first edition of the festival back in 2014.

Taking place in the heart of Middlesbrough around Teesside University, Twisterella’s metropolitan, multi-venue format offers value and convenience to festival goers, providing them with a unique chance to witness a number of incredible performances throughout the day. In the years since its inception, the event has become a central part of the north east’s flourishing music scene and was recognised with an AIF Independent Festival Award in 2019 for its innovative approach to developing and showcasing new talent.

Now celebrating its 10th year, Twisterella has previously played host to established acts such as Sam Fender, Pip Blom, Dream Wife and Prima Queen, whilst the festival’s co-promoters have a proven track record of bringing exciting talent to the region having hosted early shows for the likes of The 1975, Wolf Alice, Alt-J, Daughter and many more.

2024 will also see the return of (Un)Conference; a vital, inclusive forum which brings key figures from across the music industry together in Middlesbrough to share their expertise, offering advice and feedback to Teesside’s next exciting generation of artists.

Twisterella will announce additional artists as well as the (un)Conference programme over the next few months.

Acts Announced:

Chalk // Martha // Pom Poko

Be Quiet. Shout Loud! // Brodie Milner // Fiona-Lee // Make Friends // Melanie Baker //

Moon Wax // Pet Snake // Provenance // The Joshua Hotel // Velkro

Andy Carr, co-promoter Twisterella:

“Wow! Ten years since the first Twisterella! A lot has happened since we started the festival. Our commitment to bringing the very best national and international emerging talent to the centre of Middlesbrough remains undiminished, and we return for this year’s edition with the biggest Twisterella yet. Twisterella is such a special event and we are eternally grateful to all those who support it and make it such an essential and energising day of live music. Today’s announcement is only the beginning of what we have planned, but we couldn’t be happier to be bringing the likes of Pom Poko, Chalk and Martha to Middlesbrough this October.”

Henry Carden, co-promoter Twisterella:

“As always, this year’s Twisterella will be the perfect opportunity to discover your new favourite band, but we’re also going to allow ourselves to indulge in a little bit of nostalgia. Some old friends from the past decade will be returning to help us celebrate our 10th anniversary, including Boro heroes Be Quiet. Shout Loud! who are calling time on their 5-year-strong hiatus to play for us. They played the first Twisterella back in 2014 and have been big supporters of the event ever since. It’s great to have them back.”
