His fans will be delighted to hear that Vance Joy has just released a new track ‘Clarity’ with a new album ‘In Our Own Sweet Time’ via Liberation Records, to follow in June.

As befits the times, ‘Clarity’ was co-written over Zoom with Joel Little after a Halloween party. Little is known for his work with Lorde, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and others. ‘Clarity’ features a thumping beat and great horn section that reveals a more poppy side to Joy. It has an infectious optimism that is very welcome right now.

Stream ‘Clarity’ here.

“It’s very upbeat and poppy. Dan Wilson says if there is a song you might be a bit shy about because it feels poppy or makes you feel uncomfortable because it’s saying something really directly that’s probably the single. I got that feeling from Clarity. When we finished the song Joel said he could imagine the feel of the production – when he sent it back to me, with the full production, it just exploded.” – Vance Joy

‘Clarity’ will be featured on Joy’s third album ‘In Our Own Sweet Time’ which is due for release on the 10th June. Joy’s previous two albums, 2014’s ‘Dream Your Life Away’ and 2018’s ‘Nation of Two’ both reached number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart on release and have secured double-platinum status. Joy had massive global success with (amongst others) the singles ‘Georgia’ and ‘Riptide’ and supported Taylor Swift on her 1989 world tour.

The upcoming album was written during the pandemic and according to Joy focuses on the idea of creating a life and a world with someone.

“I’m always drawn to the idea of timelessness or that shared moment that takes you out of the chaos outside. If the world is crazy, you can retreat somewhere. It’s always hard to think of the right title but I think that sums up the album perfectly.” – Vance Joy

‘In Our Own Sweet Time’ features 12 tracks including the previously-released singles ‘Missing Piece’ and ‘Don’t Fade’.

Joy, who is currently preparing for a US tour in May, will return to Australia in September for ‘The Long Way Home Tour’. Tour details can be found here.
