US industrial noise collective YHWH Nailgun will make their highly anticipated debut on Australian stages this July, bringing their scorched-earth live show to Sydney and Melbourne for the first time. The rising four-piece—who’ve rapidly become one of the most talked-about new acts in experimental music—will hit Mary’s Underground in Sydney on Tuesday 22 July, followed by The Curtin in Melbourne on Wednesday 23 July.
Formed during the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdowns, YHWH Nailgun are a product of tension and rupture. With drummer Sam Pickard, synth manipulator Jack Tobias, vocalist Zack Borzone, and guitarist Saguiv Rosenstock, the band trades in a pummelling, transcendent strain of industrial chaos—equal parts visceral and ritualistic.
Their latest album, 45 Pounds, has been turning heads across the industry. Named Best New Music by Pitchfork and cited as a breakout act by Rolling Stone following their incendiary SXSW performance earlier this year, YHWH Nailgun’s momentum is undeniable. Apocalyptic in tone, their sound welds raw noise to searing electronics and sermon-like vocals, delivering something between a spiritual exorcism and a sonic assault.
With critical nods from The Guardian, Pitchfork, and beyond, their Australian dates promise a rare chance to experience a band at the bleeding edge of heavy experimentalism—loud, unrelenting, and impossible to ignore.
