Taken from his forthcoming EP Underground, out on Match 5th, Open Eyes is the new single from Max Foreman, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today. It’s the debut solo release from the Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and producer, best know as keyboard / vocalist of Bouquet, and also as guitarist with San Francisco math rockers Tenebre.

Of the new song, Max told us, “‘Open Eyes’ is a moment in time, and an opening of the gateway to a new sonic universe. The parallel worlds in Max Foreman’s Underground EP unfold: cosmic synthesizers and analog drum machines tearing through the sky, anchored by volcanic textures of layered guitars. The lyrics depict a fragmented state of consciousness, tripping backwards and replaying moments out of sequence. It’s a strange journey that awakens the ear to new worlds contained within.”

Hushed, hazy synths bleed all over Open Eyes, and the melancholy and circumspect nature of it, meandering beats and picked guitar lines, gives it this sort of indie feel – however, there a pop sensibility about it to, not least the scattering beats and clear production. What really makes it though is the singalong chorus, that catches your breath and captures your heart.
