PREMIERE: Space Fight prepare for second album liftoff with the deceptively busy widescreen pop of ‘Fool For Me’

Back in 2013—the same year as his main gig Ra Ra Riot released their third album Beta Love—Mat Santos made good on a promise from three years prior. A band formed over pub discussions in London in 2010, the lineup of Space Fight was completed by a pair of brothers: Spen Miles (who ended up as vocalist) and Kenny Bernard, also of Ra Ra Riot. The aforementioned band is still going, having released Superbloom in 2019, but while we await RRR’s sixth album, how about Space Fight’s second?

Well: it’s done, having been in the works since around the start of the pandemic; it has a title (more on that below); and it has a vague release date of summer 2022. It also has a lead single in the form of the souped-up modern love song ‘Fool For Me’. We’re premiering the video for the track, which is officially out tomorrow, and Spen (who edited the clip) had this to say about it:

“[Our] video for ‘Fool For Me’ was made with black and white footage from several old public domain films. The most prominent film used is 1938’s Algiers, starring Hedy Lamarr. Something in her smile is timeless, and lends itself perfectly to this modern love song. The song itself features Mat and Kenny of Ra Ra Riot on bass and drums, and is mixed by Andrew Maury (Lizzo, Shawn Mendes).”

Tune in below, and keep an eye out for further details of the transatlantic trio’s upcoming album Do You Dream in the Daylight – the band play the Mercury Lounge in New York on Wednesday June 22nd so there’s a good chance we know more by then.
