News: The Howlers Release New Single ‘Cold Sweat’ Ahead Of New Album

London indie rockers The Howlers offer another glimpse of the upcoming album Heavy, with the new single ‘Cold Sweat’.

The new album comes fresh from a landmark run of European dates alongside rock legends Alice Cooper, ZZ Top and Deep Purple, while the band have also revealed a new run of shows supporting Wolfmother, further cementing their reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling live acts.

Set for release on October 9th via FLG Records the album’s new single ‘Cold Sweat’, brings a dark, driving soundscape of swirling synths, punching drums, pulsating fuzzy bass and gritty guitar lines. Bringing undertones of industrial rock to their indie tendencies, the track balances its infectious vocal lines with a gritty backdrop that showcases the evocative yet infections sound which is found across the upcoming album.

Thematically ‘Cold Sweat’ explores a prolonged health battle that saw the frontman repeatedly confront the possibility of losing his life, with no clear diagnosis, no definitive answers and medication that failed to provide relief.

“Almost every day since I wake up with a dull headache,” says frontman Adam Young. “It got to the point where I had to make peace with the pain and begin rebuilding my life. The song takes on the narrative of this struggle and my relationships within it.”

Following a period of change at the end of 2024, The Howlers emerged with a renewed identity. Young rebuilt the project as a two-piece alongside drummer Toby Richards, a shift that reshaped both the band’s creative process and their sound, bringing a sharper sense of purpose to what came next.

Created alongside longtime collaborator Chris Ostler (Black Honey), the upcoming album also represents a different approach to songwriting and production. Built remotely through exchanged demos, ideas and evolving compositions, the process stripped away distractions while allowing each track to develop naturally. Only during the final stages did the band move into rehearsal spaces to record live drums, bringing a raw physical energy to the album’s more experimental moments.

Young describes Heavy as a reflection of life after dark and what follows when the lights come back on.

“This album is those late-night experiences, the after-dark conversations, late-night phone calls, the seductive nature of impulsiveness that seems so alluring and losing yourself in the addictive nature of recklessness, but it’s also the mirror in the morning, the wake-up call, and the harsh reality of knowing those feelings won’t always last,” he explains. “It’s the moment you find yourself again.”

‘Cold Sweat’ is out now on all streaming platforms via FLG Records, with the full album Heavy following on October 9th.
