Briggs and BIG NOTER continue their uncompromising introduction with the release of ‘BIG NOTER’, a blistering new single featuring Joe Talbot of IDLES, lifted from the band’s forthcoming debut album Songs In The Key Of Wrestling, due 18 September via Island Records Australia.

Stream it HERE.

If previous releases announced BIG NOTER as one of Australia’s most formidable new heavy bands, the self-titled track sharpens that message. Built on crushing riffs, a grimy low-end groove and Talbot’s unmistakable roar, ‘BIG NOTER’ is a sardonic dismantling of swagger, self-importance and toxic masculinity.

Briggs is quick to point out that the song’s central figure is entirely fictional.

“This self-titled song paints the picture of the ultimate punish of an individual,” he explains. “It’s the neighbourhood bully’s anthem. It’s completely satirical; it bears no resemblance to any person you, Joe or I know.”

The collaboration with Talbot feels like a natural fit. Both artists have built careers on confronting uncomfortable truths head-on, and together they deliver a track that is as confrontational as it is cathartic, channelling punk, hardcore and metal into a relentless four-minute assault.

The single also offers another glimpse of Songs In The Key Of Wrestling, an album that arrives carrying considerable weight. Produced by Nick Didia, whose credits include Rage Against The Machine and Pearl Jam, the record tackles subjects including First Nations identity, racism, mental health, incarceration and genocide. Alongside Joe Talbot, the album also features guest appearances from Chuck D and Tom Morello, underlining the scale of Briggs’ vision for the project.

Fronted by the Yorta Yorta rapper, author and activist, BIG NOTER has rapidly emerged as a powerful new outlet for Briggs’ songwriting, trading hip hop for an abrasive collision of hardcore, punk and metal without losing the directness that has long defined his work.

With the album arriving on 18 September, BIG NOTER will also take the new material on the road with headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, giving audiences their first opportunity to experience the band’s uncompromising live show.
