After releasing a stunning debut earlier this year, (‘Jimmy sour highs‘) solo artist Martin Garside, operating under the name Garsa, is back with another perfect slice of dream pop/ shoegaze in ‘The Devil’s Own’, which Backseat Mafia is proud to premiere. This is a beautiful release, infused with an air of wistfulness and yearning and indicates Garsa has a sustainable and indelible talent.
‘The Devil’s Own’ has that Madchester shuffling beat and passionate, expressive vocals, and yet Garsa as a project is no pastiche or tribute: it is the result of creative songwriting delivered through the expressive musicianship of Garside. It may be described as low-fi, but it has a complexity and layering that is vibrant. It really is a delight:
