Out tomorrow (27th November) is the brand new single from Italian outfit Piqued Jacks. Called Golden Mine, it’s a track of rich aplomb from a band who are seeking to make themselves very much heard, and we’re delighted to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Whilst earlier single ‘Every Day Special’ featured ear pricking vocals and a real drive in the bassline, ‘Golden Mine’ shows the band taking a step up in maturity, and a song about the end of one’s time on earth, focusing on our insignificance compared to the pages of history. It ebbs and flows, full of rich chords and playing on the loud / quiet alt-rock trick to brilliant effect, and has the sort of earworm melodies and chorus’s that in the old days would scream ‘hit record’. In other words, a wonderous, ambitious single crammed into a three minutes.
