Track: duendita reveals the incredible Open Eyes as part of Mexican Summer’s Looking Glass series

Released as part of Mexican Summer’s ongoing Looking Glass series, which focuses on the human condition and is bathed in collaboration, discovery and diversity, Open Eyes is the new single from singer/producer duendita.

Of the single she says “Open Eyes celebrates my mission to grow and change despite trauma. It’s a reflection on faith, trust and ancestral wisdom, a vow to always listen to my body. When I first moved to Berlin, I met the beloved techno/ rock band Bakery. I started sitting in with them and we’d play long 2-3 hour sets all over the city. I grew and became free on stage but best of all, I learned to play my SP404x.  One night, Bakery’s drummer Anton (@anton.off) and I made “Open Eyes.” To make the og demo, I played Juno and then chopped it up while Anton recorded individual drum hits. The lyrics spilled out quickly and it was the first song, of many, that we made together. This special interpretation means so much to me. I got to work in a beautiful studio with my favorite NYC-based musicians and express new ideas. I love how it came out!”

Built on these sighing piano chords and wispy synths, Open Eyes has to be one of the most soulful, beautiful tracks of the year. Scratchy jazz-funk, and elements of gospel bleed into eachother, as duendita’s voice drapes itself over the top.
