Sydney alt-pop trio Heterochromia have released their new single ‘Just Like Magic’, a bright, knowingly messy pop song about recognising the red flags in front of you and choosing to admire the scenery anyway.
‘Just Like Magic’ takes aim at the peculiar mental gymnastics of the situationship. Someone is offering the bare minimum, inconsistency has somehow been rebranded as intrigue and yet there remains a stubborn determination to believe there might be something worth hanging around for.
It is fertile territory for Heterochromia, who have built their sound around turning questionable decisions and emotional chaos into pop songs with enough momentum to dance through the consequences.
‘Just Like Magic’ arrives as Heterochromia enter their ‘Heart Eyes Club’ era, leaning further into songs about vulnerability, messy friendships and romantic entanglements. Rather than pretending to have all the answers, the band seem much more interested in documenting what happens when you know better but go ahead and do it anyway.
Heterochromia will celebrate the release with a single launch show at The Lord Gladstone in Sydney on October 9. Tickets HERE.
‘Just Like Magic’ is available now across streaming platforms.
