Track: Nicolas Bougaïeff – Thalassophobia

Berlin-based producer Nicolas Bougaïeff has revealed his new album will be a debut for the legendary Mute Records label. Out on July 24th and called The Ulward Spiral, he’s also revealed the first track to be taken from the record – Thalassophobia.

On the track, Bougaïeff had this to say “It’s about looking inwards. It’s a Greek word that means fear of depth, actually literally it’s fear of water, but it’s the fear of unfathomable depths,” adding. “I’m pointing to the fear of depths; both literal and metaphorical. It’s a beautiful word that has attracted me going back years.” –

Thalassophobia is this hard-edged, minimalist techno track, that slowly unfurls as it goes, adding more beats and pads and this glitchy, sinewy synth line splattered over it. Constantly changing and morphing, impulses you along for the ride.
