Troye Sivan has kicked off his next chapter with ‘She’s the Best’, the title track from his newly announced fourth studio album, due October 9.
The new single arrives with a video directed by Gordon von Steiner and featuring Nicole Kidman, bringing together two of Australia’s most recognisable international exports. It’s quite the way to introduce an album.
‘She’s the Best’ follows the enormous success of Sivan’s 2023 album Something to Give Each Other, a record that pushed him decisively towards the dancefloor without abandoning the intimacy of his earlier work. The album topped the ARIA Albums Chart and produced ‘Rush’ and ‘Got Me Started’, helping earn Sivan three Grammy nominations and introducing yet another incarnation of an artist who has spent much of his career wriggling free of easy categorisation.
Now She’s the Best begins album number four. It arrives more than a decade after Sivan first started making serious noise with the TRXYE and Wild EPs. His 2015 debut Blue Neighbourhood and its multi-platinum single ‘Youth’ established him internationally, while 2018’s Bloom opened up a more confident and increasingly physical pop world. By the time Something to Give Each Other arrived five years later, Sivan sounded completely at ease inhabiting both vulnerability and outright pop hedonism.
There is still plenty to discover about She’s the Best, but choosing the title track as its first introduction suggests Sivan isn’t interested in quietly making his way back into view. With Kidman in front of the camera, von Steiner behind it and a fourth album now officially on the calendar, Troye Sivan’s next pop era has begun.
