See: White Denim – ‘At Night In Dreams’ video + UK Tour dates

For some they are ‘The last great rock ‘n roll band’ and many believe them to be the ‘best live band around.’ Bold statements indeed. White Denim are certainly flavour of the month, and with the release of their latest single, ‘At Night In Dreams’, it’s easy to see why.

The track, taken from their latest album, ‘Corsicana Lemonade’ is an easy to get along with good old slice of indie rock n’ roll. It has the energy of the best punk bands, with a generous portion of psych rock filling delivered in between slices of 70’s glam. It’s one of those push back the furniture, turn it up loud, and have a damn good prance round your room tunes, that will be played over and over.

Here’s the video…

The video is created using a clip made by Texas artist Brian K.  Jones, one half of the art duo, Chuck and George. It features Big Tex a 52ft. tall iconic Texan landmark. After standing tall for 60 years, the mechanical cowboy came to a fiery end on the last day of the 2012 Texas State Fair when he went up in flames.

Brian – “White Denim had really taken a liking to my ‘Meanwhile…back in Dallas!’ two-second animated burning Big Tex/self-portrait video loop. The animation was comprised of 48 ‘traditional’ paintings ranging from six inches to eight feet that hung salon style in the gallery setting. For ‘At Night in Dreams’ I took a more digital approach to avoid the ‘by-product’ of traditional paintings, using free open source software GIMP to produce the animated drawings and KDEnlive to edit the parts into video. There are winks and nods to psychedelic grind house theatre graphics of the 70’s and a sprinkling of old Saturday morning cartoons to lighten the mood.”

‘Corsicana Lemonade’ has been available for a while and ‘At Night In Dreams’ is available as a single from now via Downtown

For everyone’s sake I sincerely hope White Denim are not the ‘last great rock ‘n roll band’, and as for been the ‘best live band around’, the reports coming back our way have all been good and appear to support the statement, but we’ll be able to see for ourselves soon enough. White Denim are set to play a 8 stop tour of the UK in May before heading back stateside in June to support the Arctic Monkeys. Fingers crossed Backseat Mafia will be reporting back on at least one of the gigs.
