It fits that Lindsay Olsen, aka. Salami Rose Joe Louis, used to be a scientist. Her music commits to questions and experiments, probing the possibilities of out-there pop with a Stereolab-like dedication.

You may not have caught her 2019 debut for Brainfeeder, ‘Zdenka 2080’, a spiralling, trippy fizz of dream pop, jazz hints, broken beats and sci-fi quirkiness. Now comes ‘Chapters of Zdenka’ an offshoot collection from the original album sessions available now via the usual digital suspects and in limited edition, authentically retro cassette form from Brainfeeder/Ninja Tunes.

‘Chapters of Zdenka’ is a sprawling twenty one song set of boundless ambition and dizzying variation topped with remixes from Dakim (from nu-soul Leaving Records) and the prolific jazz, hip-hop and funk cosmologist Georgia Anne Muldrow. Sample ‘We’re Dumb’, the ‘single’ lifted from the new release and you get spun from a pumping synth drive through woozy breakdowns and lush vocal showers to finish with a few bars of mellotronic flutes. So the track introduces the full flavour of ‘Chapters of Zdenka’, it’s like listening to a chemical reaction.
